Mental
Mental is the journal of applied psychoanalysis of the European
School of Psychoanalysis (ESP) and the New Lacanian School (NLS).
Published twice a year in French, it specializes in applied psychoanalysis
in the domain of mental health and the discontent within civilization
as it can be apprehended in the social bond: the orientation and
therapeutic efficacity of psychoanalysis are the object of regular
reevaluation, as are the observation and theorization of new forms
of the symptom. Concerned by the mutations of the social bond and
the problematics of the subject of the unconscious, Mental intends
to submit psychoanalysis to the discipline of the real, as it changes
before our very eyes, distancing it from its predjudices and from
the certainties of orthodoxy.

iNWiT
A NEW JOURNAL OF THE NLS IN DUTCH
 |
The
New Lacanian School has its first Journal in Dutch. Its name
is 'iNWiT'. The signifier inwit refers to the Joycean expression
agenbite of inwit and implies that iNWiT wants to make known
the theoretical, clinical and cultural implications of the
later teachings of Lacan in the Dutch-speaking psychoanalytic
world (in the first place in Flanders (Belgium), but also
in the Netherlands). |
|
iNWiT is edited by de Kring voor Psychoanalyse van de NLS
the editorial board includes Stefan Hertmans, Geert Hoornaert,
Lieven Jonckheere (editor in chief), Anne Lysy, Erik Mertenss,
Hubert Van Hoorde and Stefan Verlinden. It is made with the support
of many friends in the schools of the NLS and the WAP the
scientific committee includes Jean-Claude Encalado, Lieven Jonckheere,
François Leguil, Anne Lysy, Judith Miller and Alexandre
Stevens.
The first issue of iNWiT is the result of one year of diligent
and fraternal collaboration around Lacans Seminar X on anxiety
(published in 2004). In line with the NLS-theme of past year iNWiT
1 assumes that it is impossible to recover completely from anxiety
and consequently it explores its psychoanalytical treatment between
the momentary 'relieving anxiety' (désangoisser, a signifier
Eric Laurent fished up from Seminar XI) and the structural going
through it (franchissement, a signifier Jacques-Alain Miller considers
to be the pivot of Seminar X).
iNWiT 1 is constructed around the translation in Dutch of two
lessons of Lacans Seminar X on anxiety a real scoop!
and some of Millers introductory lessons to it. Miquel Bassols,
Lieve Billiet, Gil Caroz, Lieven Jonckheere, Eric Laurent, François
Leguil, Anne Lysy and Alexandre Stevens made theoretical contributions
(although laced with a strong clinical perfume). Luc Vander Vennet
took care of the construction of a clinical case; Joost Demuynck,
Geert Hoornaert, Nathalie Laceur, Erik Mertens, Hubert Van Hoorde
en Stefan Verlinden all carefully handled lively vignettes. Theodor
Reik also joins in, as one of the main references of Seminar X,
with a translation of (parts) of his Schofar-study. And finally
we are quite happy that Flemish writer Stefan Hertmans allowed
us to round off with his contribution to the London Forum Psy
(21-22 May 2005).
iNWiT 1 is introduced, presented and situated in the context
of the Journals of the NLS by Alexandre Stevens, but also by Judith
Miller in a rather personal contribution.
It is the intention of the board of iNWiT to maintain this scheme
for the next issues: translation of Lacan, orientation by Miller,
theoretical and clinical contributions from members of the Schools
of the NLS and the WAP, a reference of Lacan, attention to actual
cultural phenomena.
The next issue probably will be dedicated to the sintom and the
names of the father. One can already imagine that James Joyce
will be a prominent guest.

Lacanian Compass
 |
A
compass is an instrument that indicates direction, used by
mariners, aviators and other travelers to enable them to get
from one place to another, it serves to find the way home
and to travel safely in unfamiliar fields. The magnetic compass
is one of the oldest and most reliable navigation instruments
still in use today. Using a compass and a map or chart, a
skilled careful navigator can direct a craft from one destination
to another, even in fog or at night |
|
The goal of the Lacanian Compass is to guide and orient those
who are interested in psychoanalysis through the teachings of
Freud and Lacan, in USA. Psychoanalysis faces today many challenges,
the main one being its survival in the XXIst Century. Is psychoanalysis
as it is practiced today able to answer to what Freud called the
discontents of civilization? We know that the world panorama is
changing with globalization and the new distribution of power,
politically and economically. These changes have an effect in
the subject, and he or she expresses it through different symptomatic
manifestations. There is a demand for quicker and more effective
answers to human suffering. Science has risen to meet this challenge,
with new medicine and new therapeutic techniques. Psychoanalysis
of Lacanian Orientation is also ready to present and to sustain
the results of its practice.
In the Beacon you will find articles about an important theoretical
or clinical concept that will guide us to safe port.
The Chart contains a brief description of activities held by
different groups in several communities in USA, and English speaking
Canada, so you can find a place near your area where you can participate,
research and study Freud and Lacan’s teachings.
With our Radar we will explore cutting-edge topics.
This Section will alternate with the Book Mark, where we will
review recent and important psychoanalytic publications.
The Lacanian Compass will appear bi-monthly. Please join us in
welcoming Lacanian Compass. We hope you find it a valuable instrument.
