Pure happiness! – Thomas Van Rumst How beautiful it would be to be a flourishing brain! This is what we are promised by neuroscience: we have a tremendous genetic endowment in our brain and under the right conditions it can be fully exploited. There is no limit to our cognitive development. And if there is one, it is of the order of a contingency, an epigenetic factor: a bug, a flaw in the system. Araceli Teixidó shows us here that between the flaw and the fault, there is but one step, that of the foreclosure of the disruptive element of cerebral development: the subject. Their contingency is not ours. It was absolutely necessary, in order to get to where we are now, to situate the speaking animal and its hyper complex brain at an extreme point of evolution. It was written. And everything is already written, programmed in accordance with yet to be discovered laws, where the application of these laws has already been found. Simply take for example Stanislas Dehaene’s advice to parents to create the best “cognitive environment” (1) for their children. Thanks to the progress of the neuroscience the Other is reduced to an Umwelt which is supposed to stimulate, ever more and more comprehensively, the computer-processor Innenwelt of the young brain. There is but one step from this application to policy creation. Claire Piette points it out to us: the one towards the extension of the universal. Parents, teachers, clinicians … a further effort to live up to the laws of nature! Our causality, which the unconscious testifies to and the scandal that Yves Vanderveken reminds us of, is that of a real without law. We are not the continuously updating fulfilment of a program that is being written. We are the fruits of the happiness and misfortunes that occur, precisely because there is nothing written between the brain and the unconscious.
