The
most prominent reference in Lacan, for the term victim

… is in
relation to Sade in his Seminar on the Ethics of
Psychoanalysis. The result of the fact that God
is dead, is that the limit is lacking, Lacan
says on page 194 of the English translation of
this Seminar.

The main feature of the position of victim is that it
relates itself to a beyond of a certain limit, the
limiting function of a guarantee – were it to
exist. This unleashes the superego and we are
faced with the death drive that governs the
process of transgression, which has itself as
