Necessary Punctuations

Alexandre Stevens

Punctuation marks give structure to sentences and clarify their meaning by introducing pauses and syntactic relations, as well as nuances and surprises. The inverted exclamation point placed before the title of the Congress, ¡Urgent! is just that: it accentuates the surprise.

But we must also punctuate the theme of urgency. Haste is not precipitation. The urgency of subjective assertion is not equal to the urgent pressure of the drive. What is urgent in the symptom cannot be superimposed on the urgency of satisfaction. The movement of a determined desire at the beginning of a cure is not identical to the moment of concluding at the end.

These are the punctuations that this section will welcome.
