Rebecca, étudiante, dira lors d’une séance qu’elle « fait de l’anxiété, qu’elle est une usine à anxiété », que c’est son « fonds de commerce ». Son discours reste collé à cette anxiété et même si les termes changent, ce mot revient inlassablement à la même place. Or, comme le rappelle Alexandre Stevens dans l’argument du congrès de la NLS, Lacan a pu dire dans le séminaire XVII, l’Envers, « que la répétition n’est pensable, n’a de valeur qu’à partir de la jouissance ». « Anxiété, travail pour l’université et fatigue » sont pour Rebecca une manière de se définir sans pour autant associer autour de cela.

Fixion and Fixation

The fundamental fantasy is a solution through which the neurotic subject finds an answer to a confrontation with the real that is a lack in the Other. Such an answer is always the same and fixed, covering up the emptiness of signification. This inertia of the fantasy and its repetition is how the subject is related to the Other through the object a. By means of the subject’s response, there is a function and know-how in the fantasy.
