For Lacan, no one is in paradise, neither women whom he considers rather imprisoned within themselves. They therefore work to get out of a jouissance that envelopes them because it is not localised in one part of their body but takes it entirely. Wouldn’t we say that the famous Sadian injunction Yet another effort! (Encore un effort!) seems to be made for them? Their envy is not for the penis, but to be realised in the envy of the desire that castration liberates in men. What does a woman want? That her jouissance is liberated by becoming desire and better still, love.

 Towards a Philosophy of Birth

It is nowadays commonplace to hear that our world is facing a risk of collapse.

So why should we care about giving birth in the face of a great catastrophe?

Frédéric Spinhirny, Philosopher and Hospital Director, argues in his book Naître au monde that birth is the revelation of a mutual relationship, far from any feeling of self-sufficiency or autarchy. His theme relates individual upheaval to the construction of a habitable world for mankind.

 The Addled Woman

Amandine Dhée

 

Amandine Dhée is a writer and comedienne, and in her stories published by La Contre-allée she explores the various nuances of femininity, the one that is assigned as such and the one that discovers itself in a non-standardised desire, the one that wants to become a mother or not.

In The Addled Woman, she takes us through the experience of pregnancy with a malicious lucidity and a blistering irony that does not prevent us from experiencing moments of grace also.

In the company of Saso, a singer and musician from Lille, she will offer us a fresh version of this story through her musical interpretation.

 

She will be at the Pipol Plenary
