QUESTION OF THE SCHOOL

The Experience of the School

“First, a principle: the psychoanalyst derives his authorisation only from himself. This principle is inscribed in the original texts of the School and is decisive for its position.

This does not exclude the possibility that the School provide a guarantee that an analyst has come out of its training.

The School may do this on its own initiative.

And the analyst may want this guarantee, which henceforth can only go further: to become responsible for the progress of the School, to become a psychoanalyst through its own experience.”

Registration

“The experience of the School”, is an expression derived from this paragraph of the “Proposition of 9 October 1967”, in which Lacan radically links the School – the new form for a group of analysts – to the formation of which it is the locus, insofar as a psychoanalyst encounters this School as an experience.

There is thus “an experience of the School”.
In this 2024 Question of the School, we will be looking at the various ways in which the psychoanalyst encounters this experience:

– Those who enter the School – how do they discover it?
Four new members will tell us something about this, speaking as ‘I’.

– Those who take responsibility – how do they construct this experience, with others and for those who are not yet part of it?
Two colleagues in charge of an NLS Initiative, a colleague involved in a delicate “political” action, and the colleague in charge of one of the key places of experience in our School, will give first-person accounts of these risk-taking activities, which are based on a desire.

– Those who “went beyond” – how have they made themselves “responsible for the progress of the School”, after satisfying the test of the pass?
It is they who, as Analysts of the School (A.S.), bring into the School, for its members, a singular desire for transmission on which its “very experience” is based. Three of our colleagues, who have taken up this gauntlet, have agreed to answer this ever-renewed question.
