Pass Request: Formulating It, Receiving It

 
In Ghent, I will speak about the theme of interpretation at the end of analysis in relation to the body of the parlêtre, from the point of view of two dimensions of the pass that involve me contingently. First, my experience of the end of the analysis and the pass, which produced my appointment as an Analyst of the School, now in its third year. Second, in the role of first interlocutor of the request for the pass as President of the EFP for those who, in the NLS and in the SLP, address the President in writing, declaring to have concluded their analysis and to wish to start the process.

Event
 
The appointment of an AS by the structure of a School is an event. It’s a triggering of School transference. And the School, sometimes in haste, prepares to receive “our AS.” It is this signifier “our” that has prompted my contemplation, for in my time as Secretary of the pass for the WAP, I have received several examples of this expression, “our AS,” and I always ask myself how to make it consistent with the idea that the AS are of the School One.
 
On this point, I would like to bring to the conference the choice of broadening this “our,” since the circuit of the drive of satisfaction can be enlarged. 
 
In other words, while transference is local, desire always opens to a beyond.

If we assume that an interpretation is measured by the effects it produces, no matter when it happens in the cure nor what type of interpretation it is, which ones operated in my analysis? Those that produced a moving forward, a crossing, a tipping point, then the exit? What place did the analyst have in this process, which was made up of a long-term continuity as well as of cuts, of words and of the body, to the point of tightening the “most central cornering [coinçage] of the symbolic, the imaginary and the real”?1

Is the pass feminine?
 
In his class, “L’Un tout seul,” Jacques-Alain Miller argues that by means of feminine jouissance, Lacan isolated a jouissance that cannot be symbolized, that is unsayable, and which as such has affinities with uncountable infinity. Unlike phallic jouissance, which is countable, accountable, since one can count the blows even to infinity, feminine jouissance cannot be counted, said or known. At most, it is experienced but remains incalculable. This jouissance, which exceeds the forbidden by escaping the law of castration, was applied in a generalized way by Lacan to all speaking beings, whether man or woman. He extracted the sinthome as a pure body event, isolated beyond the traversing of the phallic fantasy. In this respect, would sexual difference fade away? We will take some examples of pass testimonials to try to answer this question.

The Pinning of an Unmatchable
 

The pass constitutes the pinning of an unmatchable that could make its fundamental strangeness heard in the Other.
 
This strangeness is what Lacan called the sinthome, residue of the analysed symptoms, bone of the cure. The end is therefore not of the order of a last word but of a body event, because if “it is always with the help of words that man thinks […] it is in the encounter between these words and his body that something takes shape.”[1] It is a body event because it’s with his body that man speaks. Let’s be clear: it is not the body that speaks but language that speaks through the body.

In Ghent, I will say by what body event the words that marked the end of my analysis came, opening on to the adventure of the pass, and the consequences that it has produced in my practice of interpretation.
