"Does Analysis Solve Problems?" Speaker:

The question might seem strange, since an affirmative answer seems so obvious. But then again, why did Freud consider that in psychoanalysis healing comes in addition, as a sort of bonus, indicating by this that its essential operation is located elsewhere? And why would there be the slightest need for an analytic School if therapeutic problem-solving were the sole goal of the analytic experience? The Freudian notion of ‘interminable analysis’ points towards a paradigm proper to psychoanalysis. Through the production of an ‘unsolvable’ remainder, which is exactly what the paradigm ‘problem-solution’ cannot include, the psychoanalytic discourse proposes a way out of
the contemporary discourses where the promotion of universal ‘remedies’ goes hand in hand with the rejection of singularity.

The paradigm ‘problem-solution’ dominates in contemporary ‘thought’, in civilization, in politics, and in almost every approach that has psychic suffering as its object. Every challenge that defies the human being, every question he is confronted with, whether individual, political, philosophical or ethical, is spontaneously turned into a ‘problem’ that calls for a ‘solution’, which is ideally a final one, a definite one. Lacan has always refused, throughout his teaching, to apply this paradigm to the questions that the speaking subject is confronted with. Now that this paradigm is invading the whole field of human affairs and fuels the contemporary forms
of discontent in civilization, the issues at stake in this refusal are more current then ever.

Clinical Workshop 2016 – 2017

The “Clinical Workshop” is an activity of the Bulgarian Society of Lacanian Psychoanalysis. Organized over the past four years, it aims to open a space for the clinical discussion – theoretically oriented by Lacanian psychoanalysis – of clinical cases that have been prepared in advance and taken from the psychotherapeutic practice of a wide circle of professionals. Keeping the new elements from its 13th edition, the Clinical Workshop of the school-year 2016 – 2017 started in October and will have one meeting each month until July 2017.
