This Saturday, the London Society will be holding an afternoon Workshop on the theme of the Next Congress: "About the Unconscious: Place and Interpretation of Formations of the Unconscious in Psychoanalytic Treatments", with the participation of Philip Dravers, Thomas Harding, Michele Julien and Bogdan Wolf, to say nothing of the lively discussion to be held with an audience of members and non-members alike.The title of the Workshop picks out the guiding thread or "fil rouge" used by the NLS on its Congress website to evoke, among other things, the topology of the Borromean knot, developed by Lacan in his late teaching, where the real, the symbolic and the imaginary are redefined as radically heterogeneous elements whose interrelation is assured only by the addition of a fourth 'supplementary' thread that knots them together: namely, the symptom. In such a clinic, the structural failure implied by the real is there from the start and the knot constitutes itself relative to a 'slip' that, from a certain perspective, is that of the knot itself. Join us as we attempt to circumscribe the hole constitutive of the unconscious – and around which this knot takes form – while considering the place and interpretation of formations of the unconscious in relation to various aspects of Lacan's teaching, clinic, topology and politics."Don't hesitate! The call from psychoanalysts against Marine Le
Pen was sent out on
our School’s lists on 13 March, starting at 7:30 am Paris time.
Even before launching this “Call from
Psychoanalysts” on
the site Change.org, it had already received much support from psychoanalysts
abroad, from psychologists, from intellectuals and from many celebrities in the
art world.
By making this call, psychoanalysts are
publicly taking a stand in the debate around the French Presidential elections coming up on 23
April and 7 May. It is a choice that transcends their personal political
convictions as soon as democracy is threatened. It is a question of preserving
Human Rights as the choice of an open society. They are calling upon their fellow
citizens to vote with them against Marine Le Pen. It is first and foremost
simply a Call – a call not to abstain, not to leave the ballot blank, a Call to
make one’s voice heard and to vote for a candidate that is not Marine Le Pen.
Because of the way the election is organized, every vote that is not in her
favor will count towards hampering her election.
Today we have already received more than 5000
signatures.

Against Marine Le Pen
The so-called “National” Front reduces nationality to ancestors. It makes of it an archaic heritage rather than a choice. It is the current avatar of an age-old counter-revolutionary movement that was once born in hostile reaction to the Enlightenment, the glory of France. This current of ideas has already been in power: it was the Collaboration during the Nazi Occupation. Seeking to experience this a second time is to forget or to ignore the despicable nature of the first.
The elections for the President of the Republic will take place in two rounds, on 23 April and 7 May. Legislative elections will take place on 11 and 18 June. For the last several months, the polls have been putting Marine Le Pen in the lead in the first round of elections. Nothing can exclude the possibility of her winning the second round. Every day we hear the voices of those calling out against this with fear, anxiety, indignation, and revolt.
In fact, Lepenist ideology is a threat to public liberty. It is exacerbating the general tendency towards exclusion, hatred and confrontation. Mme. Le Pen would fracture our society, and the consequences would be disastrous, in a context where the sense of discontent felt by the working class is being exploited by nationalist ideology on a European and worldwide level.
The very possibility of exercising our profession is put into question. There is no psychoanalysis worthy of its name without human rights, without freedom of expression and a free press, without the vital dynamics and breathing space of an open society. This is why we are emerging from our political reserve call upon our fellow citizens to vote with us against the partisans of hate.
