On the anniversary of the onset of World War One, this exhibition revisits the little known correspondence between Einstein and Freud on the subject of war and the possibility of avoiding it.
Audience #20, Fabio CoruzziThemes of propaganda, disillusionment and the psychological aspects of conflict will be explored, not only through Freud’s writings, but also through artworks produced by the East London Printmakers and poetry written following a specially created Young Poets challenge.The exhibition also reflects on the Freud family’s experience of war, when three sons served on the front line, while the family waited anxiously for them, enduring considerable hardship at home.Politicians, journalists and academics will be giving their thoughts and visitors too will have the opportunity to add their answers to Einstein’s enduring question: ‘Is there any way of delivering mankind from the menace of war?’… More >

En hypotese: Den samling af grupper, som NLS udgør,
rummer en viden om ”krisen”, som det vil være interessant at klargøre. Hvis vi
betragter krisen som en af vores tids mestersignifianter, og som sådan en måde
at benævne det reelle på, kan rækken af lande, som vores Skole dækker, undervise
os i en modeserie af forhold til det reelle. Mellem Israel, der uden ophør er i
krise, og Schweiz, der synes at undgå enhver krise, har Grækenland og Irland
skabt tegn på den økonomiske krise i Europa; Storbritannien og Canada er
forløbere for scientismens og teknologiens krise; Belgien er stedet for en
sproglig krise; Ukraine er ramt af kriser i en stat, der har svært ved at
markere sig som sådan; jeg springer videre …
Signifianten ’krise’ henviser etymologisk til et kritisk
øjeblik, hvor tingene tipper således rundt, at der må gives et skøn over en
beslutning, der bør tages. Denne signifiant er siden Hippokrates’ tid blevet
brugt af lægevidenskaben til at betegne en sygdomsfase, hvor symptomerne viser
sig på voldelig vis. Termen ’krise’ har senere helt selvfølgelig fået plads i
psykiatrien, og er med lethed blevet indfiltret i den Andens dimensioner, som vi
kalder politik, det sociale, økonomien, historien og moralen. Signifianten udgør
en del af det fælles sprog i dag.

Една хипотеза: списъкът от психоаналитични групи, които
съставляват НЛШ съдържа едно знание за „криза“, което представлява интерес да
бъде осветлено тук. Ако мислим за кризата като за едно от господстващите
означаващи на съвремието и като такова за начин да се назове реалното, широкият
спектър от държави, обхванати от нашата Школа може да ни научи на поредицата от
начини на отношения с реалното. Между Израел, страна постоянно в криза и
Швейцария, която изглежда избягва всякакви кризи, Гърция и Ирландия, които се
превърнаха в емблеми на икономическата криза в Европа, Великобритания и Канада,
които са първопроходниците на кризата в науката и технологията, Белгия в центъра
на лингвистична криза, Украйна белязана от кризата на държава, изпитваща
трудност да се установи като такава и да спрем до тук.
Означаващото „криза“ се отнася етимологически до критичен
момент на дълбока промяна, а също така до преценяване на решение, което трябва
да бъде взето. От времето на Хипократ това означаващо е било използвано в
областта на медицината да обозначи фаза на болестта, в която симптомите се
проявяват в остра форма. По-късно терминът „криза“ намери своето естествено
място в областта на психиатрията и много лесно се просмука в полето на Другия,
което наричаме политическо, икономическо, социално, историческо и морално. Днес
това означаващо е част от ежедневната реч.
