Seminar XI for today. It is a seminar that has undoubtedly passed unnoticed because of the huge public success of
Encore, which speaks of feminine jouissance. But …or worse is to Lacanian psychoanalysis what Jack Kerouac’s
On the road was to the beat generation; it is the book of a generation, one that opens onto the real clinical situation of the post-68 period. We intend to study it, not as a manual of Lacanian formalism, although it is that as well, nor in a line of
continuity with Lacan’s overall teaching, but as the first work of post-Oedipal psychoanalysis, one capable of guiding us in our practice with subjects as they present themselves to us today. Naturally, our study requires both erudition and research. Of course,
we will be obliged to return to Parmenides and Aristotelian logic. But we will not allow ourselves to be bogged down by the love of knowledge, for it is a question here of the future of psychoanalysis.

You don’t ignore that in five months, on May 18th and 19th 2013, we will meet in Athens for the XIth Congress of the NLS which will be the occasion to celebrate 10 years of existence of our School. A members Conversation will punctuate the event on Friday 17th May in the afternoon, in order to find out what the New Lacanian School wants for the 21st century!
The theme of the Congress, initiated by Éric Laurent in Tel Aviv, will focus on the impact of science and capitalism on our clinic, from the perspective of what we call «psychosis». It will be a matter of producing something new departing from what psychoanalysis, our own analysis and our practice teach us. Which original mode of knotting, which invention –always symptomatic-, or even which typical mode, has such speaking-being found to attach the body to speech ? It is not excluded, in line with the orientation of PIPOL VI, that one tackles the question from the viewpoint of one’s own experience as analysand, or as analysand-practitioner in an institution. For this joint of the body onto language never holds completely for anyone, making the category of psychosis falter at the end of Lacan’s teaching. This congress should draw the consequences of this. It is, in any case, from another knotting, different from that of the Name-of-the-Father, that the issue will be considered, according to the logic of the previous congress where we explored how the sinthome as writing impacted on the body and called, no longer for its interpretation, but for its reading.
Practical information, festivities, concrete arrangements, all of that is being actively prepared. The information centre is the new website of the NLS where you can already register for the Congress. I invite you to discover this site, to rediscover your School, section by section. It lacks nothing but your contribution!
I hereby launch a call for contributions, not yet for the congress itself, but for its preparation. I invite you to send to Florencia Shanahan a paper of 3500 characters maximum (including spaces, in English or French) before the end of this month; a paper presenting the flash of the issue as it arises for you right now, from a reading, a clinical vignette, a moment of analysis, a supervision session, cartel work, a film…
Reread Éric Laurent’s intervention as well as the argument, both available on the website as downloadable pdf in French and English. Take a look at the bibliography on the site. Contributions will be posted on a blog through the good offices of Florencia Shanahan. Colleagues will then respond online!

NOUAGES 2013
Concept de ‘Nouages’
Le Séminaire de la NLS ‘Nouages’ a, comme son nom l’indique, la fonction de tisser les liens de travail au sein de l’ensemble de l’Ecole dans une combinatoire qui troue les liens bilatéraux. Organisé par le Comité exécutif de la NLS, il réunit des collègues des 5 Sociétés, plus les groupes Polonais. L’axe des Nouages est le Congrès de l’Ecole, qui cette année se tiendra à Athènes les 18 et 19 mai 2013.
Les Nouages permettent d’entendre d’autres voix de la psychanalyse dans la voie lacanienne qui est une. Leur richesse tient à cette confrontation des langues au sein de l’Ecole la plus hétérogène de l’AMP. Cette diversité est homologue à la matière même de notre objet.
Dans chaque lieu, trois travaux seront présentés et discutés: une introduction théorique par un membre du Comité Exécutif, deux travaux cliniques, par un membre du groupe local et un invité d’un autre groupe. L’animation et le compte rendu sont sous la responsabilité du Président du groupe local.

Une Conversation des membres ponctuera l’événement le vendredi 17 mai après-midi afin de savoir ce que veut la Nouvelle Ecole Lacanienne pour le XXIè siècle !
Le thème du Congrès, amorcé par Eric Laurent à Tel Aviv, portera sur les impacts de la science et du capitalisme sur notre clinique, à partir de ce que nous appelons « psychose ». Il s’agira de produire du neuf à partir de ce que nous enseigne la psychanalyse, notre analyse et notre pratique. Quels modes originaux de nouage, quelles inventions toujours symptomatiques, ou encore quels modes typiques, tel parlêtre a trouvé pour joindre le corps à la parole ? Il n’est pas exclu, dans l’orientation de Pipol VI, que l’on prenne la question à partir de sa propre expérience d’analysant, ou encore d’analysant-intervenant en institution. Car cette jointure du corps à la parole ne tient jamais complètement pour aucun, ce qui fait vaciller la catégorie des psychoses à la fin de l’enseignement de Lacan. Ce congrès devra en tirer les conséquences. C’est en tout cas à partir d’un autre nouage que celui du Nom-du-père que la question sera envisagée, dans la logique du congrès précédent où nous explorions comment le sinthome comme écriture impactait le corps et appelait non plus son interprétation mais sa lecture.

On Philippe La Sagna’s “Séglas and the System of the Malicious Other”
Under the aforementioned title, Philippe La Sagna elaborates the main ideas underlying Séglas’s theoretical approach and work. Starting from the asylum of the Salpêtrière, where “the clinic of hallucination was the crux of the clinician’s work”, we become familiarized with the historical context of Jules Séglas. In addition, we can witness the modifications in his thinking over time and the contributions he made to our approach to clinical practice.
With reference to Séglas, La Sagna presents us with the hallucinatory phenomenon, especially the “little Séglasian revolution” according to Lacan, which is the verbal psychomotor hallucination. This is the beginning of an exploration of the minute differences between the various types of hallucinatory phenomena. This allows for a great variety of questions to be posed. For instance, what differences are there between auditory and verbal psychomotor hallucinations? Is there a link between hallucinatory phenomenon and delusion? How can hallucinations be mistakenly identified with obsessions? What kind of misrecognition is taking place?
Apart from this, La Sagna provides us with further details concerning the opposition between two major poles of psychosis, specifically melancholia and paranoia. Beginning with Cotard’s syndrome, La Sagna differentiates melancholia from paranoia based on Séglas’s conception. Delusion of negation and ideas of negation, vastness and megalomania, emotions and intellectuality are some of the elements that contrast with each other.
In 1934, Séglas criticizes the notion that a hallucination is “a perception without object” – according to the definition given by Benjamin Ball- and thus he produces his own first theory of hallucination. Here is where Lacan and Séglas meet each other. Obviously, here the hallucination is being removed from the domain of sensation and being placed on the side of language. First and foremost the question now is “who is speaking”? “Contrary to what used to be believed, the source of auditory hallucination is not external to the subject but within the subject”, says La Sagna. Additionally, for Lacan, the delusion itself is an elementary phenomenon; for Séglas, hallucination – an elementary phenomenon par excellence – is a delusion.
Philippe La Sagna’s lecture is followed by a fruitful discussion with the other participants of the seminar. With Jacques-Alain Miller’s guidance, questions and remarks, certain topics of Séglas’s theory are put forward for further clarification. I am convinced that this article will be very useful to all who are eager to study the subtle distinctions presented to us, in order to prepare their work for the next NLS Congress in Athens.
