FLASHES

Get your pens ready!

The blog's Newsletter, Meteor, has presented, one by one, the different rubrics conceived from the thematic axes drawn from the argument of the Congress. Because of their quality, these presentations constitute genuine orientation texts: At War – Challenges of the Living – Fears and Anxiety – Im-monde – Sexes – Guises of the Object. You can read and reread them on the
blog.

As of today, it is time for the flashes – contributions that we invite you to write – which will be published on the blog and diffused by Meteor from next Tuesday and every week, throughout the preparations for the Congress.
These texts can be based on a literary, theatrical, cinematic, or other work, that resonates with one of the themes of the argument. They should be accompanied by a reflection that teaches us about contemporary anxiety and discontent.
But texts may also be based on the exposition of a bibliographical reference, a social, political, cultural or scientific news item, or one of your own teaching interventions. Each of your contributions will be read with great attention.
Please note that for reasons of confidentiality, clinical cases will not be accepted for electronic distribution, but are eagerly awaited for the simultaneous sessions of the congress.

The criteria your text must meet to be accepted can be found
here.

Looking forward to reading you!

XXI NLS CONGRESS

20 – 21 May 2023

NLS-congresXXI(1).jpg

CALL FOR PAPERS

Simultaneous Clinical Sessions

Simultaneous (parallel) sessions will take place on Saturday 20 May, 13:00 -16:15, with some in English and others in French. There will be no translation: each speaker and each participant will select the language of their choice.

We invite you to propose a contribution in line with the theme of the Congress, "Anxiety and Discontent". It is a theme especially conducive to the development of a case-by-case clinic, oriented as much by the analytical experience of the practitioner as by the epistemic references of our field. It is a theme geared as closely as possible towards knotting public discourses and the subjectivities of individuals who either subscribe to them or are rejected by them.

A 'clinical case' is this very knotting, unfolded under the effect of transference.

So, your contribution will be about a clinical case, which will be read by the scientific committee.

Papers to be sent by the 20th of March to the following address:

e.koukouli.nls.secretary@gmail.com

In the following form:

– 7,000 characters, including spaces, written in Times New Roman font, size 12, line spacing 1.15.

– In the body of the text: the author’s surname, first name, e-mail address and mobile phone number.

– Subject of the email: NLS Congress – Simultaneous Sessions NAME First name

Some guiding themes:

Freudian clinic: anxiety neurosis, anxiety hysteria.

Current forms of discontent: the impact of current discourses on subjectivity

 Acute anxiety vs. panic attacks

 From anxiety to the symptom

The emergence of anxiety under transference

Phobias: limits for desire or bulwarks against jouissance?

Direct hold of anxiety on the body: scarification, bulimia, etc…

Anxiety and separation: fall of the object/letting drop of the subject

SEXUAL IDENTITIES IN TRANSIT:
A CONTEMPORARY QUESTION

A One-Day International Conference

With the participation of: François AnsermetÉric Laurent and Alexandre Stevens

Saturday, 4th February – London (in person)

image.jpeg
image.png

Presentation of the Theme
Everyone knows that the fields of sex and gender have become sites of intense debate and experimentation today. What it means to be a ‘man’ or a ‘woman’ (or neither) is no longer determined by a pre-given social, cultural, or religious consensus, but seems to be in uncertain transit. Increasingly then, individuals must invent their own diverse answers to this fundamental question. On the other hand, a gender-based identity politics has also emerged which, in its pursuit of individual rights, sometimes defends a new “universal” answer that paradoxically prevents individuals posing this as a question unique to them.
Sexual Identities in Transit: A Contemporary Question is a one-day international conference exploring the relationship between these urgent issues and the clinical practice of psychoanalysis. As Gender Studies in academia illustrates, psychoanalytic theory has long been at the forefront of questioning received ideas about gender and sexual identity. Yet at the level of its practice, its ethical orientation towards the specificity of the individual means that psychoanalysis is not a matter of merely applying a theory, nor of promoting solutions circulating in the common discourse. Instead, psychoanalysis attempts to be a space of listening, questioning, and interpretation, in which things can indeed be in transit but without knowing in advance where they will end up.
This event brings together a diversity of perspectives – academics, journalists, and clinicians with experience of working in institutions, gender clinics and/or private practice, from countries such as France, Belgium, Switzerland, and the UK – to explore what psychoanalysis offers to contemporary debates about sexual identity. It will be of interest to clinicians of all modalities (whether psychoanalytic or not), but also to anyone with an interest in, or personal experience of, these issues.
